Pope Francis' Visit To The USA

Posted on

The fall of 2015 will mark Pope Francis’ first visit to the USA! While the World Meeting of Families is on his main agenda, what else will the Pope do while here? There is so much to do at the three stops on his trip (Washington D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia).

Prior to entering the United States, Pope Francis is visiting Cuba. The first place on his American journey is to Washington D.C. to meet with President Obama, pray with the Bishops of the United States and address the United States Congress. Reports say that the Pope is not addressing the U.S. Congress to criticize or anger but rather to speak passionately and challenge American citizens to uphold our values. Common topics the Pope speaks passionately about include: poverty, immigration, respect for human life and respect for Mother Nature - especially regarding climate change. A special, side journey includes Pope Francis presenting a rare copy of St. John’s Bible to the Library of Congress.

Following the Capital, Pope Francis heads to NYC to have a similar conversation as at the Capital but with the United Nations as his audience. With God at the center of Pope Francis’ visit to the USA, he will host a multi-religious ceremony at the 9/11 memorial followed by Mass in Madison Square Gardens. A central mission for Pope Francis’ journey is to continually proclaim the good news of the Lord through teachings, friendship and fellowship.

Finally, the last step on Pope Francis’ US journey is to Philadelphia to say the concluding Mass for the World Meeting of Families. The Pope has a large mission for such a short trip. It is our duty as American Christians to listen closely to what the Pope has to say and use it to enrich our lives. What an honor to welcome Pope Francis to our beautiful country! See the schedule below for Pope Francis’ entire agenda, and don’t forget your Pope Francis keepsakes to get blessed.
