    Just Like in Grade School

Posted by Jandy on 3rd Mar 2019

I went to Catholic School in the 1960s/early 70s and happen to have an old copy to compare. This book is an improvement from the school-issue booklet in paper quality as the newer edition is printed on thicker grade paper, probably acid-free, gloss finish, and the pictures are brighter and more colorful. Everything is exact, same prayers, same layout from page to page, even the exact photo plates of the depictions of Christ's Passion. Again, the only differences are in the fonts, the colors, in fact some printing is colored as in red ink, blue ink, and black ink. I read a complaint about the asterisks interspersed in the prayers as being distracting and I want to point out my knowledge of this purpose is so the congregation would chant and then pause at every asterisk. They act like rests in music. These booklets are meant for congregational participation. Without asterisks, there would be people rushing in runoff sentences while leaving half the congregation in the dust. Especially school kids, can you imagine the diversity in reading levels ? I recall very well-orchestrated Stations services with grades 1-thru-8 plus adult parishioners reciting in unison, all thanks to those asterisks. So, yes, well worth the money and very reasonable shipping.

Needed for persons with visual impairment.

Large print materials are needed to enable persons with low vision to pray with us for our Church and our World. We all miss out if they are left out. Any pictorial content such as the cover, needs to be simple in design and high contrast such as the cover on the new Scriptural Way of the Cross.

    Nice Pictures

This is the Way of the Cross after the method of St. Alphonsus Liguori. I'm not real fond of his meditations as some lines get a bit repetitive. I prefer the method of St. Francis of Assisi. I wish there were a book with just the pictures alone. The rest I can remember from memory.
