California Propsition 65 Information
At St. Jude Shop and its subsidiaries, we are committed to serving our customers with honest, transparency, and respect. In accordance with California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65), we provide the following information regarding products that may carry a Proposition 65 (Prop 65) warning.
What is Proposition 65?
California Proposition 65 requires businesses that sell products in California to provide a warning if those products may expose consumers to chemicals identified by the State of California as causing cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
The Proposition 65 list contains more than 1,000 chemicals and is updated regularly. Many of these substances are commonly found in everyday consumer products, including decorative items, religious articles, jewelry, home décor, packaging materials, plastics, paints, finishes, electrical components, and other manufactured goods.
Why Do Some Products at St. Jude Shop (and its subsidiaries) Include This Warning?
St. Jude Shop offers products from many trusted manufacturers around the world. Some manufacturers choose to place Proposition 65 warnings on their products or packaging because certain materials or components may contain trace amounts of chemicals listed under California law.
These chemicals may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and lead compounds
- Phthalates (including DEHP and DINP)
- Bisphenol A (BPA)
The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe or that it violates any federal safety standards. In many cases, manufacturers provide the warning out of an abundance of caution to comply with California's labeling requirements.
Does A Proposition 65 Warning Mean A Product Is Unsafe?
No. A Proposition 65 warning is intended to inform consumers about potential exposure to certain listed chemicals. It is not a determination that a product is unsafe.
Many products sold throughout the United States—including household goods, furniture, electronics, jewelry, collectibles, religious articles, and home décor—carry Proposition 65 warnings because of California's unique disclosure requirements.
