Oplatki Christmas Wafers are a wonderful Christmas Eve tradition celebrated in Poland and other Slav countries.

The Christmas wafers consist of 4 wafers(3 white and one pink) which measure 3 x 5-1/2 inches, embossed with beautiful Nativity scenes, placed in a Christmas envelope. The white wafers are traditionally passed around the table and shared with guests on Christmas Eve along with good wishes and blessings. The head of the house shares the pink wafer at midnight with any animals he has as a reminder that we are all God's creatures. For those who are not familiar with the tradition, there is an enclosure included with the Oplatki Christmas wafers which explains the tradition, the rite itself and the symbolism of the rite. The Oplatki wafers are imported from Poland and made only once a year at Christmas time from pure wheat flour and water.

    I am Polish/Slavic. Every Christmas Eve Dinner, before we began to eat, we prayed. The head of the house had an Oplatki, he would break off a piece & extend wishes to everyone, then pass it along and everyone who would do the same. Then we would begin eating our homemade Mushroom Soup (mushrooms picked in a local forrest, & dried to make the annual soup) We would toast with a sip of red wine. Then we would eat a bowl of Bobalky Soup made with homemade bread balls, poppyseed and milk. This meal was a Family Tradition eaten on Christmas Eve only.

    Arrived in perfect condition! From birth 75 years ago, our family ate Oplatky at our Christmas Eve Meal. My family is Polish on one side and Czech/Slovak on the other and it's a precious tradition I will carry on till I die.
