How to Choose Godparents from Your Go-To Store for Religious Goods

If you have been reading the previous blogs from our store for religious goods, then you already know how important a godparent is to a child. They aren't just someone that will stand idly by at your child's christening, they are your child's ethical and spiritual guide throughout their entire life! Choosing the right godparents for your child is so important. That is why we have come up with this guide to help you choose your child's godparents:

  1. Consider all of your options- A good way to do this is by making a list of everyone you know that could be your baby's godparents. Keep in mind that they don't have to be related to you, but since you want them to be a spiritual guide, they should be Catholic or a least hold similar religious beliefs.
  2. Think about your expectations- Do you want them to be around most days, or is it okay with you if they are only there for the big events in your child's life? If you want them to be around, then an out-of-town cousin probably isn't your best choice.
  3. Find someone with similar beliefs and values- This goes beyond religious values. Your child's godparents will be their moral compass in all things, not just religious, so you want to ensure that you agree with their guidance.
  4. Choose someone that you can depend on- Before someone can guide a child, they need to be able to take care of themselves! Find someone who is responsible, dependable and has a generally stable life.
  5. Talk to your church- Your church can guide your through all things and choosing a godparent is no exception. So don't hesitate to ask for advice when you need it.
