Preparing for Your Child's First Communion

Is your child preparing for his or her First Communion

The First Communion -- or First Reconciliation -- is an amazing moment, one of the most important occasions in a Roman Catholic's life. The First Holy Communion is one of three sacraments of initiation, through which we become full members of the Church. Holy Communion is the third of seven Catholic sacraments. It follows baptism and first confession (the Sacrament of Penance), the first two sacraments. The seven sacraments (from the Latin word sacramentum) are ceremonies pointing to what is sacred. The sacraments are special occasions when we experience God's presence in a deep and meaningful way.

Typically, at age 7 or 8 (considered the age of reason), Catholic children receive Jesus in their First Holy Communion through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist at Mass. Eating the consecrated bread and drinking the consecrated wine, children partake of the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ for the very first time.

To help you prepare for this special time in your child's life, St. Jude Shop offers a large selection of First Communion products and supplies. We have gifts, cards, figurines and dolls, as well as communion rosaries, communion apparel and a wide variety of lovely Christie Helene communion dresses.
